Recorded by faithful secretary Matthew Warner
Proving that cats aren't the only beasts with multiple lives, the Baltimore/Washington Chapter of HWA returned once again on 1/27/02 to wreak untold havoc upon the Borders Books flagship store in Annapolis, MD.
As they signed books for a screaming throng of at least 150 people*, Barbara Ferrenz, Brian Keene and Karen Taylor read from their latest anthologies, as other signers Ralph Bieber, J.F. Gonzalez, Steve Korslund, A.B. Wallace, Matthew Warner and Sheri White flirted with groupies. Moral support was given by non-writers Bill Barnett and Joe Maynard. Joe trekked over four hours** to be there.
The chapter gives a huge shout-out THANK YOU to horror writer and Borders man Roger Range for organizing the event and for maintaining what must be the largest bookstore horror section in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Adjourning to Griffins*** Grill, the chapter laid diabolical plans for '02 events, such as having Richard Chizmar as a guest speaker at our next meeting, and selling truckloads of books at this summer's Horrorfind Con II, which is expected to attract 6,000 horror enthusiasts from VA, MD and DC. At least 5,000 of them, of course, will attend the convention's featured charity softball showdown between HWA's New York and Balt/DC chapters.
Future chapter activities will include two out of three of the following: a members-only anthology, an H.P. Lovecraft seance, and a writing contest.
