HWA SFV – MINUTES OF JUNE MEETING

The meeting was held on Sunday, June 4th, 2006 at 6 p.m., at Dark Delicacies Present were: Maria Alexander, Del Howison, Mike McCarty, Lisa Morton, John Palisano, and two guests of John’s (Shelby and James).

After the May minutes were read and discussed, the meeting discussed some news items from the parent organization, including upcoming elections.

Discussion of old business centered on the HWA SFV’s website, and our new discussion board (which is linked from every page of the website). Members were urged to register and post at the discussion board.

New business included Scott Alan Woodard’s suggestion of hosting podcasts at the website. There was some discussion of the legality of the website, and members were warned that an original story read as a podcast is then considered to be officially published. There was also some discussion of technical problems entailed with podcasts (i.e., the amount of storage space to host large sound files). This problem could be solved by hosting the podcasts at other sites and simply providing links to them through HWA SFV’s site.

We also discussed the notion of creating a space for online stories at the website, and discussed possibly setting up a separate page or area of the site for stories.

There was also a mention that minutes are now archived and available at the HWA SFV’s website.

There was some discussion of urging more local authors to join HWA and participate in HWA SFV. HWA SFV also is committed to helping local authors gain the necessary credit(s) to join HWA, and would like to emphasize local opportunities and markets more in the future.

There was brief discussion of screenwriting competitions, and members also discussed their current writing projects.

The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
