HWA SFV – MINUTES OF AUGUST MEETING
The meeting was held on Sunday, August 6th, 2006 at 6 p.m., at Dark Delicacies Present were: Guest Jace Anderson, Armand Constantine, guest Adam Gierasch, Del Howison, guest Andrew Jackson, Courtney Joyner, guest James Mabrey, Lisa Morton, John Palisano, and Scott Alan Woodard.
The July minutes were read and discussed, and Del mentioned that Dark Delicacies will have a booth at the West Hollywood Book Festival next month, and that Dark Delicacies would certainly be happy to distribute any HWA or HWA SFV materials at their future booths.
We also further discussed our upcoming mixer, and realized that the previously chosen date of August 26th fell during Worldcon, so we chose a new date of September 16th. The mixer will be held at the Eclectic in North Hollywood at 7 p.m. Lisa will prepare flyers and invitations that can be sent or given out.
Pursuant to old business, we also discussed the idea of guest speakers at meetings. Del mentioned that several authors and celebrities who have recently signed at Dark Delicacies (including Lara Parker of Dark Shadows) have indicated that they would be happy to come to speak at one of our chapter meetings.
We also discussed a possible Halloween event for the chapter, but nothing firm was decided.
Member news was discussed at length:
Jace Anderson and Adam Gierasch reported that their Mother of Tears script for Dario Argento has just been greenlit to begin filming this October, with Asia Argento starring. Adam’s directing debut, Autopsy, is to begin pre-production shortly.
Andrew Jackson indicated that he has just completed the third draft of his first horror screenplay (he found out about our chapter through Jon Torres when he was registering his script at the Writers Guild).
John Palisano is busy submitting his new novel, Paradise.
James Mabrey has finished the final draft of his horror script and is now working on a short story.
Scott Alan Woodard’s Dark Shadows radio show will be out in November on CD, and he’s now writing some shorts, as well as working on promotion for the Disney tv movie Halloweentown IV.
Armand Constantine is shopping his novel The Dreamed City to agents, and just acquired his first gamewriting job, on the latest installment of the Battlestrike franchise.
Lisa Morton will be performing with the Rolling Darkness Revue this October, and her short story “Tested” just appeared in the current issue of Cemetery Dance. She is currently shopping her first novel, Netherworld, to agents.
Del Howison just sold mass market rights to his anthology Dark Delicacies, and is about to ink the deal for Dark Delicacies 2. He’s working on a “Western/noir/horror” novel, and was pleased to report that Dark Delicacies just experienced its best July ever and its best second quarter ever.
Courtney Joyner’s involvement with the comic book project Jack Kirby’s Galactic Bounty Hunters has recently paid off in a number of high-level film meetings. He’s also sold a Western to the Hallmark Channel, and his 4-part graphic novel about Billy the Kid is forthcoming from Pennyfarthing Press. He also recently provided the voice-over commentary on the Charlie Chan DVD.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
