HWA members may now submit recommendations for the 2013 Bram Stoker Awards®. Members, please refresh your memory of the recommendation rules before submitting.
Non-members are invited to browse the regularly updated Recommended Reading List for works published in 2013.

Final Ballot Announced!
The Horror Writers Association (HWA) is pleased to announce the Final Ballot for the 2012 Bram Stoker Awards®. Invitations to vote will be sent out to qualifying members on February 28, 2013.
The HWA Board and the Bram Stoker Awards Committee congratulate all these Bram Stoker Award Nominees.

Specialty Press Award Goes to Centipede Press
Centipede Press, of Lakewood, Colorado, will receive the Horror Writers Association's Specialty Press Award for 2012. The Award will be presented during the Bram Stoker Awards® Banquet, to be held this year in New Orleans on June 15.

Barker & McCammon Given the Lifetime Achievement Award
The Horror Writers Association has chosen two long-time icons of the genre to receive the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award this year. The award, given in recognition of the recipient's overall body of work, will go to Clive Barker and to Robert McCammon.

2012 Silver Hammer Award Recipient
The Board has voted to give the 2012 Award to Charles Day, the Chair of our Mentor Committee. Charles has done an outstanding job relaunching that program, so that it now has a record number of both mentors and mentees. He has done so with his trademark commitment and good humor.
HWA's Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Marge Simon, commented, "The HWA is a success because of the tremendous workload carried by our many volunteers, mostly unnoticed. Charles is an exemplar of these efforts and the Board is pleased to recognize him."

2012 Richard Laymon Award Recipient
HWA's President Rocky Wood has chosen James Chambers to receive the 2012 Richard Laymon Award. "Jim stepped up a couple of years ago to Chair the Membership Committee. Since then he has completely revamped the Committee, bringing in and documenting processes, training people to assist, overviewing our Outreach program and welcoming hundreds of new members. In addition he conceived of and implemented the Halloween Haunts blog program, which has become a staple of our public blog each October," Wood said. "It is contributors like Jim who represent all that is good about HWA's all-volunteer structure."

HWA Officially Appears at ALA Mid-Winter Meeting
As part of a burgeoning relationship with the American Library Association (ALA) the Horror Writers Association (HWA) will have a major presence at the ALA's 2013 Midwinter Meeting in Seattle, Washington. The event will run from January 25 to January 28, at the Seattle Center.

HWA teams up with 'Curtis' and Ray Billingsley to promote YA literacy
The Horror Writers Association is proud to announce a new literacy partnership focusing on Young Adult (YA) readers.
Beginning immediately, the HWA will be working with renowned cartoonist Ray Billingsley, creator of the comic strip CURTIS, to promote reading in general, and horror in particular, at conferences, speaking engagements, and libraries.

Bruce Boston is the Poet GoH

The Horror Writers Association (HWA) is proud to announce Bruce Boston as Poet Guest of Honor for the Bram Stoker Awards® Weekend 2013, to be held in New Orleans from 13-16 June 2013.
Bruce Boston is the author of fifty books and chapbooks, including the novels The Guardener's Tale and Stained Glass Rain. His poetry and fiction have appeared in hundreds of publications, including Asimov's SF Magazine, Amazing Stories, Weird Tales, Strange Horizons, Year's Best Fantasy and Horror, and The Nebula Awards Showcase.
One of the leading genre poets for more than a quarter century, Bruce has won a record four Bram Stoker Awards for Poetry, a record six Asimov's Readers Awards for Poetry, and a record seven Rhysling Awards from the Science Fiction Poetry Association (SFPA). He received the first Grandmaster Award of the SFPA in 1999.

Glenn Chadbourne to be Artist GoH

The Horror Writers Association is proud to announce Glenn Chadbourne as the Artist Guest of Honor for the World Horror Convention (WHC) 2013. In 2013 the HWA is hosting WHC as part of the Bram Stoker Awards® Weekend in New Orleans from 13-16 June.
Glenn Chadbourne is a freelance artist specialising in the horror/dark fantasy genres. His artwork has appeared in over fifty books and well as numerous magazines, comics, and computer games. His trademark pen and ink illustrations have accompanied the works of today's best-selling horror writers, most notably Stephen King. He created the extensive artwork that appears in both volumes of King's 'The Secretary of Dreams', as well as PS Publishing's edition of 'The Colorado Kid'.

Registration for HWA's Bram Stoker Awards Weekend® 2013 incorporating the World Horror Convention is now open.
Pricing is only $125 until October 31.
From November 1 to April 30, price will be $150.
Late registration (from May 1 on) will be $175.
There are no day passes.
When you fill out the registration form, you'll be able to indicate your interest in volunteering, appearing on panels, scheduling a reading, etc.

Author GoH Caitlín R. Kiernan Announced

The Horror Writers Association is proud to announce dark fantasy author Caitlín R. Kiernan as the Author Guest of Honor for the World Horror Convention (WHC) 2013. In 2013, the HWA is hosting WHC as part of the Bram Stoker Awards® Weekend in New Orleans from 13-16 June.
The New York Times recently called Caitlín R. Kiernan, "one of our essential writers of dark fiction." She is the author of various dark-fantasy novels, beginning with Silk and followed by Threshold, Low Red Moon, The Five of Cups, Murder of Angels, Daughter of Hounds, and The Red Tree. Her ninth novel, The Drowning Girl: A Memoir, was released in April 2012.

Jonathan Maberry Announced a Guest of Honor for WHC 2013
