HWA for Librarians

Librarians have played an important part in the lives of every HWA member. They have influenced our reading choices and our love of books. They have been an important source of information and knowledge. Many of us count librarians among our most beloved friends.

The Horror Writers Association feels privileged to work with librarians everywhere to spread the word about the joys of dark fiction -- recommending the many fine works our field has to offer, and awakening readers who have yet to discover it.

Horror facts that might interest you:

• DID YOU KNOW that horror is one of the most pervasive literary types? Elements of horror can be found in almost every genre including mainstream, literary, science fiction, romance, thrillers, and mystery/suspense.


• DID YOU KNOW that annually the HWA honors superior achievement in horror and dark fantasy literature through the Bram Stoker Awards? The awards are given in twelve different categories, including Novel, First Novel, Young Adult Fiction, Anthology, and more.


• DID YOU KNOW that the HWA is happy to help you devise ways to introduce horror fiction to readers who might not yet be familiar with its originality, diversity, and attraction?

HWA's Special Services for Librarians

• JOIN THE HORROR PREVIEW CLUB
  Created in conjunction with the Chapteraday organization, the Horror Preview Club allows you to receive the first few chapters of a new horror novel every week in your e-mail. Presented in small, easily digested doses, you get a sample big enough to decide if this particular book is right for you and your library. If you like it, convenient purchasing information is located at the end of each daily selection.


• ARRANGE AN HWA AUTHOR TALK OR READING
  To arrange an HWA author talk or reading in your library or community, e-mail our Library Liaison. Please indicate your area, as well as the date and time you have in mind for the event. We will get back to you with a list of readily available authors.


• JOIN HWA AS AN ASSOCIATE MEMBER!
  If you're a librarian, you're eligible to become an Associate member of HWA. There are plenty of great reasons to join. Membership includes access to contact information for every HWA member, and an inside track on the Stoker Awards, including the opportunity to recommend worthy works for consideration. You'll also be able to take advantage of the many Associate-oriented programs at our annual conferences.
