Utah Chapter Update
As always, the Utah Chapter has been moving at the speed of light. We’ve been busy, busy, busy! Salt Lake FanX convention came and went in a flash. Many of our chapter members participated in book signings, panels, and had booths at the event. We met a lot of fun folks and spread the good word about horror and the HWA. We were also selling two different anthologies, as well as announced open submissions for our next anthology: Apocalypse Utah!
Shortly after FanX, the League of Utah Writers had their Spring Workshop, where a number of chapter members attended and were even on panels. If anyone is in Utah during one of these workshops, I highly recommend it. The caliber of people attending and participating is second to none, and the admission is so cheap it should be illegal.
Coming right around the bend is World Horror Con 2016. World Horror is going to be awesome! Utah Chapter members are part of the committee. We will have an ad in the program book and a table at the convention.
Outside of conventions, the chapter members stayed busy by doing local author readings, and debuting novels and anthologies. Below are two different books: Redneck Eldritch is a local anthology featuring our very own Sarah Seeley, and Got Luck is Michael Darlingís debut novel.
And with strange aeons, Even Death may take a dirt nap ... From the publisher of The Space Eldritch comes a flavor of cosmic horror that's much closer to home! Sometimes amusing, sometimes horrifying, always unsettling, sixteen authors bring you sixteen tales of white trash meeting dark gods, the yellowed bones of antiquity, and colors that can't be named. Including Writers of the Future winner and Hugo/Nebula/Campbell nominee Brad R. Torgersen, Writers of the Future winner Robert J Defendi, Hugo nominee Steve Diamond, and many more! Contents: “A Hole in the World” by Ian Welke, “Recording Devices” by D.J. Butler, “Mine of the Damned Gods” by Sarah E. Seeley, “Blood” by Steve Diamond, “Ostler Wallow” by Nathan Shumate, “Nightmare Fuel” by David Dunwoody, “The Swimming Hole” by Theric Jepson, “It Came From the Woods” by Jason A. Anderson, “Lake Town” by Garrett Calcaterra, “Taxed” by Scott William Taylor, “The Gears Turn Below” by SM Williams, “Slicker” by Robert J Defendi, “A Brown and Dismal Horror” by Jaleta Clegg, “The People of the Other Book” by Robert Masterson, “The Diddley Bow Horror” by Brad R. Police officer-turned-private investigator Goethe “Got” Luck is known for rolling with the punches and never taking anything too seriously. When he picks up a seemingly dead-end murder case, his life begins to take a crazy turn. Shot at, chased by people he has never met, and attacked by an invisible liondog, Got quickly learns that there is more to this world than meets the eye.
He discovers the Fae. The Eternals. They who dwell in the Behindbeyond. Once, they ruled over ancient realms, but over the centuries, their power dwindled. Now someone wants to restore their rule and subjugate humankind. All it will cost is thousands of human lives.
The clock is ticking. Getting the world out of this one will take a couple friends, more than a few well-placed insults, and a whole lot of Luck.
Got Luck is a Supernatural, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Detective story.
